China Science Reporting Network (CSRN) is a public welfare network composed of Chinese science media workers, scientists willing to communicate science to the public, and public information officers of science institutes and innovation-based industries. It is aimed at improving and enriching scientific news reporting; advancing the abilities of scientific journalism; and promoting the exchange between science and health journalists and between journalists, science community and innovation-based industries.
China Science Reporting Network is based on the website of the same name (
http://www.sciencereporting.cn), organizing capacity-building activities online and offline, facilitating regular and responsible science reporting and advancing scientific spirit among media workers.
China Science Reporting Network is a voluntary network without regular office and staff. All of its work is based on the volunteer role of working journalists and people in the relevant fields. Its activities include:
(1) Posting important news clues and relevant academic conference information in the CSRN’ website.
(2) Disseminating related information of science journalism industry through the CSRN’ website;
(3) Facilitating online exchanges on key scientific topics and science clues and organizing discussion and debates on responsible science journalism;
(4) Cooperating with other agencies to develop professional training and advance the professional abilities and working capabilities for the members and other science journalists;
(5) Organizing regular communications and discussions between science journalists and between journalists and relevant scientists, PIOs and industry people;
(6) Organizing academic communication between Chinese journalists and their foreign colleagues.
In the future, with the helps of its partners, China Science Reporting Network plans to create more chances for science journalists to obtain grants, awards, training and jobs; it will also post science and communication book reviews and embracing various interactive platforms for better using scientific reporting resources.
